Extensometers
Non-Contact Video Extensometers
The second configuration for the Tinius Olsen video extensometer is designed for the precise, non-contact measurement of high rates of strain on the specimen.
This configuration uses the same high resolution monochrome camera and advanced high speed image processing but this time a general purpose lens is used to track the strain of the specimen. A variety of lenses are available to accomodate fields of view from 100mm to 1000mm. The right choice of lens, operating at the correct working distance from the specimen, ensures that the point to point real-time measurement of continuous strain can be maintained through tensile break or compressive rupture.
Key features still include a high resolution of better than 1/100,000 of lens FOV, and by using a point to point measurement we are able to achieve an ASTM E83 Class B1 and ISO 9513 Class 0.5 classifications. Although it is not necessarily required, a cool lighting source is included so that strain point tracking is not lost due to changes in ambient conditions.
