Tinius Olsen/Hounsfield Launch Plastics Impact Testers

The soon-to-be-renamed materials testing company, Hounsfield Test Equipment, has launched two new plastics impact testers for the European market in association with parent company Tinius Olsen. Both models use a specially designed compound pendulum with interchangeable weights to perform Charpy and Izod impact tests across a wide range of energies.

A key feature of the 92T and IT503 machines is the high degree of measurement accuracy, achieving a resolution within 0.03% of the pendulum capacity. Such accuracy is "vastly superior" to dial type displays and other displays currently on the market, says the company. When connected to a personal computer running Tinius Olsen’s impact software, results and data can be stored or transmitted to any part of the tester’s IT network

Both machines can select all commonly used energy units for testing and also provide strength calculations in all units of measurement. Break type input options include: complete, hinge, partial, non-break and necking. A ‘low blow’ facility allows the pendulum to be released without being raised to full height, enabling testing at lower impact velocities and energy levels

The 92T is an open platform design providing easy access for multiple sample testing, while the IT503 is fully enclosed for circumstances where personnel or equipment in the vicinity would be a risk from breaking samples or a swinging pendulum.

A range of optional equipment includes temperature chambers for testing samples at the limits of their operational ranges, plus an automatic braking system and powered pendulum return, both aimed at increased safety and sample throughput.
